Austin Film Festival (AFF), also known as "The Writers Festival," is pleased to announce production of On Story as a new weekly radio program, to be distributed to public radio stations nationwide through Public Radio International (PRI) starting January 1, 2016. On Story's one-hour documentary series will provide a front row seat to the elusive world of storytellers in film and television, exploring the stories behind the stories and the journey from script-to-screen.
Gleaned from 22 years of archived footage from the annual Austin Film Festival & Screenwriters Conference, On Story pulls back the curtain and thrusts behind-the-scenes to center stage. Presented through captivating exchanges, anecdotes, and conversation, On Story invites listeners into writers' rooms, film sets, and the creative minds of some of the most prolific voices in film and television.
The first season will feature writers and directors from Breaking Bad, Mad Men, True Detective, House of Cards, Freaks and Geeks, Tootsie, Magnolia, Silence of the Lambs, Ghostbusters, Apollo 13, The Graduate, 12 Years a Slave, and Lethal Weapon.
Melinda Ward, PRI's Chief Content Officer, says PRI is excited about adding On Story to its portfolio of radio programs. "On Story presents an insightful look at the creative process that's fascinating to anyone who's ever watched television shows or films. We look forward to working with the team at On Story as they mine their treasure trove of audio recordings and make them into captivating radio programs."
The show will be available for broadcast beginning January 1, 2016. The current schedule will include luminaries such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Judd Apatow, Shane Black, Jonathan Demme, Jay and Mark Duplass, Paul Feig, Cary Fukunaga, Vince Gilligan, Buck Henry, Ron Howard, Jenji Kohan, Jenny Lumet, David Milch, Jeff Nichols, Sydney Pollack, Harold Ramis, John Ridley, Matthew Weiner, and Larry Wilmore.
