Agape Actors Co-Op presents PICNIC, William Inge's Pulitzer Prize winning drama about young love, family, and the need to belong.

In PICNIC, a handsome young drifter named Hal shakes up a small Kansas town over the course of Labor Day Weekend. Hal's virility and sexual magnetism seem to attract the attention of every woman in town, including Mage Owens, the girlfriend of Hal's fraternity brother, Alan.

Originally produced in 1953, PICNIC won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critic's Circle Award for Best Play. A 1955 film adaptation starring William Holden and Kim Novak was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

PICNIC features Agape Actors Co-Op regulars Zach Bond (An Ideal Husband) as Hal Carter, Christina Manley (An Ideal Husband) as Flo Owens, Alex Poole (An Ideal Husband) as Alan Seymour, Georgia Medler (An Ideal Husband, Suffer the Long Night, The Oldest Profession) as Rosemary Sydney, Dave Lovelace (An Ideal Husband, Suffer the Long Night) as Howard, and Reese Shald (An Ideal Husband, Suffer the Long Night) as Bomber. The cast also features Agape Actors Co-Op newcomers Erin Priddy as Madge Owens, Alyssa Castro as Millie Owens, Abby Pierce as Irma, and Mary Margaret Mainer as Mrs. Potts. The production is co-directed by Lori Mann and Jeff Davis.

"With PICNIC, William Inge helped shape and define American Drama," says Co-Director Jeff Davis. "The play feels right at home with other works written by Inge's contemporaries like Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams, and it's just as poignant and beautiful. It's a joy to bring life to such a beloved piece of theater and these multifaceted characters, and staging PICNIC in the Black Box Theatre allows us to play up the heat, intimacy, and romance in the piece. The audience really will feel like they're in a front yard in Kansas. It's going to be something special and memorable."

PICNIC plays the Black Box Theatre at East View High School, located at 4490 E. University Ave in Georgetown, TX. The play runs August 6-16, 2015. Performances are Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets are $12-17 in advance and $15-20 at the door.
