As I walked up towards the stage during Trombone Shorty (a.k.a. Troy Andrews) & Orleans Avenue, I couldn't help but clap my hands to the music and want to dance along. This band was rocking and the audience was rocking along. I had never heard them play before so I wasn't sure what to expect. But, I was pleasantly surprised. What talent. What skill. As I watched him belt it out on the trombone and trumpet, I thought of my own children and their short-lived musical instrument lessons. What was it like for this young music prodigy? Did peers make fun of Troy for carrying a trombone around? Was he considered a cool kid? Of course, he was out performing in New Orleans by the time he was 12 years old so I doubt people ever made fun of him. Troy grew up on the New Orleans band sound. By the time he was six, he was a bandleader. At the young age of 19, Trombone Shorty set out on a tour with the great Lenny Kravitz. He toured all over the world and continued to impress audiences in the United States and abroad. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue were also thrilled to perform with famed Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Madonna and Queen Latifah at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

The show was non-stop action and foot-stomping music. Even though I had never heard his music before, I knew I wanted to hear more and more and more. Go check out one of their videos here and be sure to go to their website to learn more about Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
