Color Arc Productions is proud to present the world premiere of a A Girl Named Sue, new play by Vietnamese-American playwright Christine Hoang with songs by award-winning Korean-American singer/songwriter BettySoo.

WHEN: February 24 - March 12, 2017, Thursdays - Saturdays at 8pm, Sunday matinees at 5pm;  "Industry Night" on Wednesday, March 8th at 8pm

WHERE: Trinity Street Theatre, 901 Trinity Street, Austin, TX 78701

A Girl Named Sue is a story of love and identity told through theatre, music, and poetry. Directed by award-winning Director Karen Jambon, this unexpected love story follows the life Vietnamese-American college student Sue Nguyen played by actress Uyen-Anh Dang. Through Sue's experiences, we explore relationships between Asian and Black communities in America, friendship and strain between men and women of color, ties between immigrant Americans and first-generation Americans, and love between parent and child.

Christine Hoang chose four songs from BettySoo's body of work to create the story arc for this new play. BettySoo will perform these songs live at all 12 shows of A Girl Named Sue from February 24 - March 12, 2017 at Trinity Street Theatre.

This will be the FIRST bilingual play in Austin, Texas to feature scenes with Vietnamese and English-speaking characters on stage. These bilingual scenes are very easy to understand as the "translations" naturally occur throughout the English & Vietnamese conversations between mother and daughter.

Set in an eclectic coffee shop, award-winning scenic designer Ann Marie Gordon will adorn the coffee shop walls with original commissioned spray paint on canvas artwork by Austin's renown grafitti mural artists Eleanor "Niz" Herasimchuk and Federico Archuleta.

KLRU-TV, Austin PBS is filming the making of A Girl Named Sue for Season 8 of its Emmy-award winning documentary series Arts In Context. We welcome audience members from all prior shows to return for a special Community talkback following our closing night show on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 7:30pm. KLRU, Austin PBS will be there to film this discussion about the themes in the play and the creative process.
