Thornton Wilder’s beloved 1938 American classic play “Our Town”—which earned a Pulitzer Prize for its depiction of life in fictional Grover’s Corners, N.H.—inspired radio, television, and film adaptations including a highly successful 1940 film with music by Aaron Copland. Rights for an operatic adaptation, however, were granted only recently to librettist J.D. McClatchy and distinguished American composer Ned Rorem. Like Wilder’s play, their stunning opera “Our Town” (2006) is both intimate and expansive. GSU Opera Theater presents “Our Town” in the year of Ned Rorem’s 100th birthday with direction by professor of opera Dr. JJ Hudson and guest conductor Rolando Salazar for the GSU Symphony Orchestra.
