Channel 2, WSB-TV announces the date and time of the 2011 telecast of the awards show, which celebrates excellence in greater Atlanta high school music theatre.
The event, named for Georgia's Tony Award winning actor Shuler Hensley, recognizes individuals and high schools in 15 different award categories including Overall Production, Leading Actor & Actress, Supporting Actor & Actress, Music Direction, Costume, Lighting and Scenic design, and Chorus Ensemble. This year, 41 high schools participated in the program.
Conceived to be an annual showcase for high school theater education programs, the event is an initiative of the Cobb Energy Centre educational outreach program, ArtsBridge. The program is supported by the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Foundation through private contributions and sponsorships, including WSB-TV.
"How better to recognize and encourage a new generation of artists and audiences than through programs like this that give expression to young people's talent," said Michael S. Taormina, Cobb Energy Centre managing director.
"This is all part of the station's service to the community," said Tim McVay, Channel 2 Vice-President & General Manager. "Channel 2 shines its spotlight on the talented high school actors, dancers and singers by devoting production, talent, and primetime exposure to this very worthwhile event."
