When it comes to the Atlanta music scene, fans usually have numerous choices of concerts any given weekend to satisfy their musical cravings. But this weekend, Atlanta music and theatre fans alike will have the rare chance to experience the folk-pop stylings of a musical-theatre actress who, in support of the recent release of her solo album, Young Stellar Object, will bring her unique sound to the Atlanta area.
Fresh off a two-year stint as the standby for Elphaba—one of musical theatre's most vocally challenging roles—in the hit musical Wicked (First National Tour), Merideth Kaye Clark, who performed the lead role over 150 times in 30+ cities, found the time while waiting to go on to write and record a hauntingly beautiful folk-pop album that channels her unique experience of a life being lived on the road.
Young Stellar Object is the result of that effort and its songs convey Merideth’s soaring voice, as well as the talent of musicians from across the country and from the traveling orchestra of Wicked. Along with producer Ricky Marson, a fellow Emory Univeristy alum, who also engineered and mixed the album, Merideth’s freshman effort shines with tracks richly textured with guitar, piano, bass, cello, mandolin, harmonica, trumpet and percussion. Clark and Marson previously teamed up to create Girl Robot, an original YouTube musical (http://girlrobot.tv).
Young Stellar Object is available now for digital download at iTunes, Amazon and meridethkayeclark.com. You can also stream the entire album for free at http://youngstellarobject.com.
