Marietta's New Theatre in the Square is bringing the holiday favorite Christmas character Ebenezer Scrooge to life in a classical way this season. From December 8-24, the theatre company will present "A Christmas Carol" under the writing and direction of N.L. Starr.
The lead role of Scrooge will be played by actor Palmer Williams Jr. who is well-known for his comedic role in Tyler Perry's T.V. show, "House of Payne." Palmer is excited about taking his acting career to a new level within a more serious classical role.
"I think people will be intrigued by what I'm bringing to this role," Williams said. "I'm excited to be in front of a theater audience and take on the new character during a time of year when so many come together to share experiences and enjoy one another. I am also excited about playing a serious role, I am reintroducing myself to world. Although, I love comedy I am looking forward to taking a step back into a new adventure."
Williams is also known for his role in Tyler Perry's "Love Thy Neighbor" and his appearance on "Family Feud." In the play, Williams's old, miserly character is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley in addition to the ghosts of Christmas "past," "present" and "yet to come." After the visits from the ghosts, Scrooge's character is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
The play will have daily evening shows and matinee shows on Sunday. The production is being presented by the Actor's Theatre of Georgia and Young Voices United. Tickets start at $30.00 and can be purchased on the Marietta's New Theatre in the Square website. $30 general admission $35 VIP; www.theatreinthesquare.net
