True Colors Theatre Company is proud to announce our 6th season schedule.
This season will begin with the classic comedy The Sty of the Blind Pig directed by Andrea Frye. We will present Kenny Leon's multi-cultural interpretation of Pulitzer Prize winner Our Town and close our season with August Wilson's Jitney directed by Derrick Sanders, Artistic Director at Chicago's Congo Square Theatre. We'll tell these stories in a way that only True Colors can and leave you thinking you gotta come back.
In addition to our three-play season, we will bring back Langston Hughes' holiday classic Black Nativity featuring a multi-cultural cast.
This season we'll also expand our August Wilson Monologue Competition for high school students. High school sophomore, juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to compete in a regional qualifying round and the finalists will compete in April at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway. This program is close to our hearts and we are so proud that it has expanded to three major cities in just three short years. Join us for this amazing competition and you'll be able to say, "I saw them when".

On the cusp of the civil rights movement in Chicago's South Side, Alberta, unmarried and in her thirties, shares an apartment with her mother, Weedy, an old-fashioned woman who finds solace for her trouble in religion. Unexpectedly, a wandering street singer, Blind Jordan, comes to their door searching for a woman he once knew. The others are puzzled, and even frightened by their visitor, but Alberta offers to help him in his quest. This intriguing, finely wrought comedy/drama explores the relationship between a headstrong matriarch and her sensitive daughter.
This gospel telling of the Christmas story is a soul-stirring musical celebration. A testament to the power of gospel music, the story of the Nativity is told through the combination of scripture, poetry, dance and song that connects a contemporary church revival to the time of mangers and swaddling clothes. This joyous evening brings the real meaning of faith and love to life. From the same creative team that brought us The Wiz.
