The Skivvies to Perform at Serenbe Playhouse, 5/20

For one night only, New York's hottest duo - The Skivvies - will be taking over Atlanta! Join the Playhouse team after our performance of Buyer & Cellar on Friday, May 20th at 10pm at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams for a concert like no other!

The Skivvies are Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley, singer/actor/musicians performing stripped down arrangements of eclectic covers and eccentric originals. Not only is the music stripped down - cello, ukulele, glockenspiel, melodica - but the Skivvies literally strip down to their underwear to perform. Nominated for "Show of The Year" for the 2015 MAC Award, The Wall Street Journal calls them "smart, sophisticated...ingenious," and Out Magazine says, "The Skivvies have managed to carve out a niche that we never knew needed to exist: part Weird Al- parody and part sexy burlesque...and unusual explosion of satire and sultry." People Magazine named The Skivvies "The Most Playful Performers" in The Most Talked about Bodies of 2014 issue and Sports Illustrated named them "Favorite New Band".

The New York Times calls them "a hot musical comedy duo specializing in unexpected arrangements, incongruous mashups, and of course, highly toned displays of skin."

This sexy duo will be joined by Playhouse favorites Jessica Miesel (Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, Carrie in Carousel), Austin Tijerina (Will Parker in Oklahoma!, Jigger in Carousel), Randi Garza (Eva Peron in Evita, Ellen in Miss Saigon), and none other than the Playhouse Founder & Artistic/Executive Director Brian Clowdus!

This event is all forming around the exciting new series at the Playhouse - Intimate Indoors! "Staying true to our mission of being site specific, we are bringing The Playhouse into the city," says Clowdus. "Titles that would never make sense outside but still flourish in an intimate indoor setting is what this new series it all about. 75% of our audience resides in metro Atlanta, and we're excited to bring what we do on an intimate scale into the City!" The first production in this series, Buyer & Cellar, is a one-man comedy that tells us exactly what it would be like working for the one and only Barbra Streisand in her basement mall! There could be no better location for this then the magnificent Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams showroom in the heart of Buckhead. "Bringing this story to a site specific location like a furniture store in Atlanta is so exciting," says Nick Cearley, Skivvies member and star of Buyer & Cellar. "The world of the play is so fantastical, I can only imagine the physical surroundings of the store will serve to enhance the hilarious story in ways never brought to the piece before."
