The Lyric Presents The Regional Premiere Of WAR PAINT  Image

Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents this regional premiere masterpiece August 16-September 1, 2019. An uplifting feminist celebration chronicling the lives, the ambitions, and lifelong rivalry between cosmetic industry giants, HELENA RUBINSTEIN and Elizabeth Arden, WAR PAINT brings vintage American glamour to stunning life. Made notable on Broadway by its stars Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, WAR PAINT features a book by Doug Wright, music by Scott Frankel, and lyrics by Michael Korie, and is based both on Lindy Woodhead's 2004 book War Paint and on the 2007 documentary film "The Powder & the Glory" by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman.

Leading the cast are Mary Nye Bennett as HELENA RUBINSTEIN and Pamela Gold as Elizabeth Arden. BENNETT is long time Atlanta Theatre royalty with roles such as Lady of the Lake in the Lyric's Spamalot (Suzi Nominated), Kate Monster in Horizon's Avenue Q, and currently serving at the Lyric's own Artistic Director. Pamela Gold makes her Lyric debut after returning to Atlanta Stages with Billy Elliot at City Springs Theatre Company. GOLD was a part of the National Tour of A Chorus Line and appeared in the first revival cast of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying alongside Matthew Broderick and Once Upon a Mattress with Sarah Jessica Parker.


Rounding out the star studded showcase of local talent are Lowrey Brown (Company, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Les Miserables) Brian Kurlander (Damn Yankees, Oliver, The Pittman Painters) Luis Hernandez (Spamalot, Bullets Over Broadway, Kiss Me Kate), as well as a dazzling ensemble that paint the glamour, beauty and sophistication of old New York.

Directed by SUSAN REID with scenic design by STEPHANIE POLHEMUS, original costumes by DANIEL BARR and lighting by BEN RAWSON, this one of a kind Regional Premiere will be sure to astound and please.

WAR PAINT, is the opening show of of the Lyric's 40th Anniversary Season. It is followed by JEKYLL & HYDE, CAMELOT, BIG RIVER and MATILDA.
