The Atlanta Opera Extras are community outreach initiatives that entertain and educate audiences about opera. A complete listing of upcoming spring and summer events is below:

The Atlanta Opera @ Cocktails in the Garden

Join us at the Atlanta Botanical Garden for Cocktails in the Garden, an evening of mixing, mingling, and music. Sample complimentary light bites from a top restaurant, groove to sounds from Lethal Rhythms and watch for surprise "pop-up" performances of your favorite opera arias. In addition to full cash bars, monthly themes pair a specialty cocktail with a plant or garden feature. The month of May features "Sprouts & Spritzers."

On June, 30, 2011, The Atlanta Opera will be showing "The Audition," by award-winning filmmaker Susan Froemke. This feature-length documentary takes you behind the scenes at the Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions, where each year thousands of hopefuls compete for a cash prize, the chance to sing on the Met stage, and the opportunity to launch a major operatic career. The film focuses on three very different tenor contestants including former Atlanta Opera Chorus member, Ryan Smith, who at the age of 30, and with little formal training, was pursuing his dream of an operatic career before he passed away in 2008. This movie is rated PG-13. Guests will enjoy complimentary treats, activities, and the chance to see a movie in The Atlanta Opera's air conditioned Rehearsal Hall. Guests also will have the opportunity to enter to win two tickets to The Atlanta Opera's production of Lucia di Lammermoor, November 12, 15, 18 and 20 at the Cobb Energy Centre.

On Thursday, July 28, The Atlanta Opera will be showing "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," the 1971 American musical film adaptation of the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, directed by Mel Stuart, and starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. The film tells the story of Charlie Bucket as he wins a golden ticket and visits Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with four other children from around the world. This movie is rated PG. Guests will enjoy complimentary treats, activities, and the chance to see a movie in The Atlanta Opera's air conditioned Rehearsal Hall. Guests also will have the opportunity to enter to win two tickets to The Atlanta Opera's production of The Golden Ticket, March 3, 6, 9, and 11 at the Cobb Energy Centre.

On Thursday, August 25, The Atlanta Opera will be showing "Amadeus," 1984 Oscar® winning film directed by Miloš Forman and written by Peter Shaffer. Adapted from Shaffer's stage play Amadeus, the story is based loosely on the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, two composers who lived in Vienna, Austria, during the latter half of the 18th century. This movie is rated R. Guests will enjoy complimentary treats, activities, and the chance to see a movie in The Atlanta Opera's air conditioned Rehearsal Hall. Guests also will have the opportunity to enter to win two tickets to The Atlanta Opera's production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, April 28, May 1, 4 and 6 at the Cobb Energy Centre.
