Based on the classic fable by Hans Christian Andersen and performed by award-winning puppeteer Louis-Philippe Paulhus, Artistic Director of the Théâtre de Deux Mains of Montre?al, Canada, The Swan: An Ugly Duckling Tale is a funny, touching and deeply human story told wordlessly through exquisite marionette and rod puppetry. This past year, the production won the 2015 Best Design Award from the Puppeteers of America.

"I like to use fairy tales [in my work] and one night while reading The Ugly Ducking, I realized that I could tell the story without words," says Paulhus. "As an artist, when you create a show for kids you should not forget about the adults. There are certain things we want to say to the adults, not the kids, but it is important that the kids hear about issues that concern adults, even if they don't understand them. And it's important that adults like the show because if they don't, then the kids won't feel as good about the show. Theatre is a communion, not just for one audience or another. The experience of theatre is unlike television or cinema because the audience is there with the performers live."
