In April, newcomer Lauren Megan stars as Caitlin Gabriel in The Library by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum). Burns writes that his play is "inspired by future events" and takes place at an unnamed American high school, where Caitlin manages to survive a catastrophic school shooting. Despite her pleas of innocence after waking from surgery, the testimony of a fellow student has already left her holding the blame for the deaths of several students. The Library focuses on the subjectivity of truth, and whether or not it really matters in the end.
When asked about the selection of shows at the theatre, director Joel Coady said, "Out of Box [is] a hub for emerging and established artists to push the envelope, a place where you can challenge yourself as well as your audience." Two Rooms and The Library are examples of productions that push the envelope of theatre in our area, offering shows that connect and resonate on a deep level about current events.
Out of Box Theatre will round out their third season with three comedies, Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire starring award-winning actress Amanda Cucher, the hilarious The Kitchen Witches by Caroline Smith, and the refreshing and raucous Rapture, Blister, Burn by Gina Gionfriddo.
Two Rooms runs February 25-27, 2016 at 8 PM. The Library runs March 4-19, 2016 Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 3 PM.
