Stogie Kenyatta's solo show about African-American artist/activist Paul Robeson is a powerful heartfelt and humorous evening of theatre. Kenyatta's performance is as laugh out-loud funny as it is educational, poignant and inspiring. Kenyatta says his show, "The World Is My Home - The Life of Paul Robeson," is the most challenging performance of his career and the work of which he is most proud. The show traces Robeson's life from the Harlem Renaissance and the Jazz-Bebop era, the shame of the Holocaust, racism and oppression.
"Armed with nothing more than the strength of his convictions and his vision of a world where men live as brothers, his message was his life," says Kenyatta. "He shows us that in spite of our differences, we still have more in common than we do in conflict." This show was given the award for Best Solo Show by the Hollywood/Beverly Hills NAACP.
"Paul Robeson was a true Renaissance man, and his story is relevant today," says Lynna Schmidt, President and Artistic Director of the Henry Arts Alliance.
"Robeson was a singer, a lawyer, and an athlete. Being great at any one of those is impressive enough, but he was great at all. I am so glad that Stogie Kenyatta continues to tell Robeson's story," says Lisa Fareed Muhammed, member of the City of Stockbridge Main Street Board.
"Last summer, this show was in high demand, and many of our patrons said that they wished they could see it again and bring their friends. We are so excited to have this opportunity to offer encore performances," says Fracena Byrd, Marketing Director for Academy Theatre.
Says Stogie Kenyatta, "The goal of the play is to awaken a new generation so that the lost brilliance of Robeson doesn't remain lost. To let all people know that the best of Paul Robeson lives in all of you and with it the power to change the world."
This show is suitable for all ages.
