Sochi Fried to Star in CROSSING DELANCEY at Alliance Theatre; Cast Announced!

The ALLIANCE THEATRE has announced the cast and creative team behind its upcoming production of Crossing Delancey, the play that led to the hit 1980s film about a young woman's search for fulfillment and her loveable, but overbearing Bubbie.

Former ALLIANCE THEATRE Yale Directing Fellow Leora Morris directs this delightful romantic comedy at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta while the ALLIANCE THEATRE undergoes a complete renovation. Performances are October 7 - November 25, 2017. Opening night is Wednesday, October 18.

"Crossing Delancey is a celebration of so many things - New York's Lower East Side community in the 1980's, the special relationships that are possible between grandparents and grandchildren, and the remarkable relaxation you feel when you find someone around whom you can be your truest self," said Director Leora Morris. "For me, the question at the core of this play is as relevant as ever - 'How does a contemporary woman, with unprecedented freedoms and seemingly endless possibilities for how to live, identify what makes her happy, decide what to prioritize, and with whom to populate her life?'"

Leading the cast in the role of Izzy is Toronto-based actor Sochi Fried. Playing her well-meaning, but meddling Bubbie, is Atlanta actor and playwright, Mary Lynn Owen. Matchmaker Hannah, who Bubbie hires to find her granddaughter a mate, is played by Atlanta actor JoAnna Daniels. Possible contenders for Izzy's affection, Sam and Tyler, are played by Atlanta actors Andrew Benator and Daniel Thomas May.

"I am thrilled to be working with so many of Atlanta's most celebrated actors and designers on this production," said Morris. "I'm also excited to bring two dear friends from out of town to collaborate - actor Sochi Fried and Kate Marvin, who is Composer and Sound Designer. We three women, all in our early thirties, are turning over the same questions as Izzy: Prioritize partners or career? Honor family traditions or build new ones? Spend time with people who see who we might become, or see us exactly as we are? We are eager to surface these questions in the play, questions that feel so personal to us, but with which so many different people grapple."

Additional members of the creative team include ELisa Carlson (Dialect Coach); Kat Conley (Set Designer); Joseph A. Futral (Lighting Designer); and Sydney Roberts (Costume Designer).
