Before opening night of A Christmas Story, The Musical at the Fox Theatre (Nov. 29), Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta presented a check for $8,090 to the Resurgens Charitable Foundation. One of beneficiary families of the foundation accepted the check on stage.
The Holbrook family accepted the check onstage. Bill and Marjan Holbrook have a daughter, Rebecca, with an alphabet soup of genetic anomalies (uses wheelchair) and is about 10 years of age. Bill and Marjan are amazingly upbeat and positive about the situation, even though they know their daughter's hour glass is running out of sand. They also have an able-bodied younger daughter (appeared on stage as well), so finding the Resurgens' playgrounds has been a great benefit for them as it allows their entire family to enjoy playing and being together.
The Resurgens Charitable Foundation promotes active lifestyles among people of all ages and abilities. The Foundation's primary focus is on building all-accessible playgrounds that can accommodate children of all abilities. The Foundation is an avid supporter of physical education in schools, youth injury prevention in baseball, and exercise programs to combat childhood obesity. The Resurgens Charitable Foundation recognizes that play is an essential "therapy" to help young people grow stronger and live healthier, and believes that all children regardless of ability, should have access to stimulating and challenging play spaces. Since 2001, the Foundation has built or contributed to 18 new playgrounds throughout the metro Atlanta area with a commitment to build at least one new "all abilities" play facility annually.
