Play Me Again Pianos announced today its newest public piano will open at the Egg Harbor Cafe on Saturday, Nov. 4th, 2017 at 12 noon. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and join in the festivities in front of the restaurant in East Cobb.

Play Me Again Pianos, a Georgia non-profit charity, is working to install and permanently maintain 88 free public pianos throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan area for the community to play and enjoy.

"Street pianos and public pianos inspire people to connect with each other in ways that were once common, but seem increasingly rare. By adding our pianos to the landscape throughout the metropolitan area, we hope to nurture that connection into an evolution of Atlanta's culture, community and the arts," said Jason Brett, co-founder of Play Me Again Pianos.

The piano was designed and painted by Angela Decker Lockman. A Visual Arts educator, her students Cate McCoy and Aubrey Ward of East Cobb Middle school lended a hand. "My vision was to translate what we love about our area onto eggs that cover the piano," said Lockman. There are 16 eggs that encompass fun places to visit, our sports teams, and even the lyrics to our state song, 'Georgia On My Mind'. Then as a nod to our host, we also incorporated two brightly-colored roosters and the Egg Harbor Cafe logo."

A multi-generational family business, through the years the Egg Harbor Cafe has named several menu items after family members. Every family member, in fact, except for Tommy, who has yet to have something on the menu named for ?him?. So in keeping with the Play Me Again Pianos tradition of naming each piano, this one will be called "Tommy."

The Egg Harbor Cafe in East Cobb will officially unveil "Tommy" at 12 noon with a ribbon cutting ceremony, which will feature a performance by a local young pianist. At the end of the performance, the piano will be open to everyone.

Play Me Again Pianos has already placed pianos in Chastain Park, two at The Woodruff Arts Center, in the plaza at Colony Square (near the MIDTOWN letters), the Dunwoody Nature Center, the Chamblee Rail Trail, Ashford Park in Brookhaven, East Cobb Park, Ponce City Market, Atlantic Station and Cogburn Road Park in Alpharetta. Additional pianos are in various stages of planning and development.

Play Me Again Pianos places, maintains and promotes public pianos to strengthen communities, inspire joy and bring people together through shared encounters with public music and art. Each piano is uniquely painted by a variety of volunteer artists ranging from internationally acclaimed professionals to aspiring amateurs and students. We are currently working to place 88 pianos throughout Metropolitan Atlanta. To find a map of Play Me Again Pianos installations, donate, volunteer or find out more, visit PlayMeAgainPianos.org. Founded in Georgia in 2016, Play Me Again Pianos is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charity.
