Actor's Express opens its 2016-2017 season with a modern take on Stephen Sondheim's game-changing musical Company. After his acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd last season, Actor's Express Artistic Director Freddie Ashley will direct the funny and incisive comedy with a "reignited love for Sondheim. With music and lyrics Stephen Sondheim and a book by George Furth, Company tells the story of Robert, turning thirty-five and still single, living in New York City. Surrounded by friends, all of whom have coupled off, he confronts his perpetual bachelorhood in a series of hilarious interactions...just in time to blow out his birthday candles. This game-changing musical gets a modern makeover in AE's Season 29 opener with unforgettable renditions of some of Sondheim's best-known songs, including "Being Alive."
The cast is led by Lowrey Brown as perpetual bachelor Bobby. Brown recently played Enjolras in Les Miserables at Aurora Theatre and Mr. Nevins in Edward Foote at the Alliance Theatre. Atlanta cabaret legend Libby Whittemore will mark her return to the theatre stage as Joanne, singing her rendition of one of the show's most memorable songs "The Ladies Who Lunch."
The cast includes Lowrey Brown*, Libby Whittemore, Kelly Chapin Martin, Jessica Miesel, Rhyn Saver,*Craig Waldrip, Jill Hames, Dan Ford, Daniel Burns, Phillip Lynch, Steve Hudson, Laura Floyd, Jimmica Collins and Emily Stembridge.
The creative team includes Director Freddie, Ashley Allie Lingenfelter as Music Director, Sarah Turner as Choreographer, Seamus M. Bourne as Scenic Designer, Andre C. Allen as Lighting Designer, Angie Bryant as Sound Designer,Deyah Brenner as Costume Designer, Elisabeth Cooper as Properties Designer, Alicia Quirk as Stage Manager and Sheila Oliver as Casting Director.
Performances of Company will be held Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 2 PM and select Tuesdays at 8 PM. There will also be performances on Tuesday evenings at 8 PM on August 2, 9, 23 and 30.
Performances run July 30 thru September 4, 2016 and the schedule is as follows: previews will be from July 27-29, 2016 at 8 PM, $20 Opening Night: July 30, 2016 at 8 PM, $40 Regular Performances: July 30 - September 4, 2016.
