Tonight, August 8, 2015, Newnan Theatre Company is bringing another night of murder, mayhem and good times to their facility, as they host Big Jimmy Spats and the Speakeasy of Doom, an interactive murder mystery dinner that promises to be nifty and fun.
The time frame is the Roaring Twenties, when Jazz was king and Prohibition had the country seeking out any available hidden bar to have fun. A cast of colorful characters will be celebrating the birthday of world-famous adventuress Dottie Bullock Fairweather. The party is being held at the highly illegal bar owned by childhood vaudeville star Needly Trenton. Among the party guests are notorious gangster Big Jimmy Spats, the exotic silent film star Helga Haverford, and the fabulous and glamorous clothing designer Collette Del Ray. While everything starts off in a festive mood, it's not long before the bodies start to drop and the clues begin to pile up. Throughout the night, audience members have the opportunity to move about the 'nightclub,' in and out of the action, deciding which characters need to be followed, and what information is crucial. Like any 'cool speakeasy,' where you hang out can be the most important decision of the night.
By the end of the evening, which includes appetizers, entrée, dessert, and drinks, all of the pieces of the puzzle will be revealed. It's up to the best 'guest detectives' to piece everything together and name the murderer, or in some cases, murderers. Prizes will be awarded to the detective, or group of detectives, who solve the mystery.
Guests will have the opportunity to dance the Charleston, partake of the club's signature drink, the "Bathtub Ring," and listen to the golden throat of the sultry club singer, Eleanora Baker. While it's not a requirement, guests are welcome to wear their best "Roaring Twenties" glad rags and join in the fun. Just remember, the password to get into the club is "Horsefeathers."
Tickets are on sale now to this event. Each ticket is $25 and includes dinner, dessert, and the show. Tickets are available by phone at 770.683.6282 or online at www.newnantheatre.org.
