In this world, there is good and there is evil. Little does the world know, though, that Good and Evil are led by two very important people. Harry Blackpool is the master of all things Evil, and Rachel Parrish leads the forces of Good. Every 25 years, the two meet at a very exclusive club to decide which side will hold sway until they meet again. And with the opening of Newnan Theatre Company's production of the black comedy Blackpool and Parrish by David Belke on April 12th, audiences will be witness their meeting on the eve of Armageddon.
Harry and Rachel have been at odds for thousands of years, but both have decided it might be time for them to retire. Harry's son, Adam, an inspired junior high school gym teacher, is expected to take over for his father, and Rachel's daughter, Tiffany, a faux-Brit artist, will become the mistress of good. But, even with the Battle of Armageddon looming, the kids are not all that enthusiastic about taking over the "family business."
Director Jeff Allen was intrigued by the possibilities the show presents. "It's the age-old conflict, Good vs. Evil -- who wouldn't be excited by that? The challenge though, comes in having these human embodiments of these primal images not be dangerous enemies. Rachel and Harry are opposites in every way, but, as we all know, sometimes opposites ... attract. They're not exactly friends, but they're not exactly hated enemies, either."
Rob Stowe plays Harry Blackpool, evil and cunning. Jennifer Dorrell plays Rachel Parrish, radiant and good. Christian Pollak plays Adam, Harry's kind and gentle son, who's not too thrilled about taking over as the Master of Evil. Elizabeth Sandlin plays Tiffany, the hard-living shock artist who is expected to take over as the queen of light and goodness. Corey Hendrick plays Timothy, the manager of the excusive club where the meeting takes place.
"Timothy is a fun character to play," says Hendrick. "Timothy is the only representative of humankind to know what is taking place. In essence, he represents the audience, given the opportunity to witness the decisions and pleading the case for humanity. He knows more than he lets on, of course, but that's his secret."
