Boys and girls, ages 5 to 12, are invited to audition for Newnan Community Theatre Company's original production, "Brer Rabbit Stories." Brer Rabbit is a trickster who uses wit and words to escape from sticky situations. The author who popularized the Brer Rabbit stories is Joel Chandler Harris. He was born in Eatonton , Georgia . The children will participate in the creation and staging of half dozen or more of these endearing and charming folk tales, which originally came from West Africa .

"Brer Rabbit Stories" is a Grassroots Arts Program and is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts, through an appropriation of the Georgia General Assembly and Administered by Arts Clayton. GCA is a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Auditions for the play will be held on March 1 and 2, beginning at 7 pm, at the theatre. Children may attend either evening to try out for a role. There is no experience needed and no preparation is required.

"Brer Rabbit Stories" is being directed by Laurel Alford. This show will be in the black box. Show dates are April 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25. Show time is 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturdays and 2:30 on Sundays. Tickets are $10 for adults (13+) and $5 for children (12 and under).
