Does the daily news leave you troubled and pessimistic? Masterworks Chorale's "Because of the Brave" concert will dispel those negative emotions with uplifting songs of home and country. Be at the Nixon Centre on October 22, 2017, at 2:00 pm.
Masterworks is joining the local Quilts of Valor organization in honoring veterans for their service. Five individuals will be spotlighted and presented with beautiful handmade quilts lovingly made for these men and women of courage.
Coweta County Quilts of Valor is an organization made up of volunteers who honor the veterans in Coweta and surrounding areas. Started in August, 2014, the Coweta guild is a part of the national foundation of Quilts of Valor. Their mission is "to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor."
Masterworks' presentation will include patriotic pieces such as "Because of the Brave," "Homeland" (tune by Gustave Holst), and "Distant Land, A Prayer for Freedom." Also included are arrangements of beloved tunes such as "Shenandoah," "The Gift to be Simple," "Amazing Grace," and "You'll Never Walk Alone." "The Promise of Living" and "Homeward Bound" honor the American way of life, and our African American heritage is represented with the spirited "Ain't No Grave Can Hold My Body Down."
Concert tickets are available on line right now through the Nixon Centre. They are $15 for all adults, $5 for students with ID and children 6 and under are free. Tickets also may be purchased at the door on October 22 or at the main office of the Nixon Centre before the concert.
