Impulse Rep's 2018 season is a Battle of the Sexes, featuring Shakespeare's lusty comedy, The Taming of the Shrew. This tale about a headstrong and self-possessed woman who tests the man she weds to see if he is, indeed, the man for the job, runs in rep with Aristophanes' comedy, Lysistrata. Lysistrata is the long-suffering wife of an Athenian general fighting in a decades-long war. She finally gets fed up and enlists her fellow Athenian woman as well as the women of Sparta (their enemy) to end the war once and for all: by refusing sex to all the men until they come to a peace agreement.

Kara Cantrell, Impulse Rep's Producing Artistic Director, is directing The Taming of the Shrew. Of the season, Cantrell says "Both pieces take a hard but ultimately hilarious look of the nature of relationships between men and women, the nature of sex, and the personal and political fallout when men and women fall out with each other." Lysistrata is being directed by Ibi Owolabi.

The cast consists of Atlanta-based actors playing roles in both productions and features Shakespeare Tavern regulars Tamil Periasamy as Petruchio and Kenneth Wigley as Tranio with Impulse Rep company member Jess McGuire as Kate in Shrew, as well as Elizabeth Ann Miller of Shakespeare on Draught in the titular role of Lysistrata. The cast is rounded out by Andre Eaton, Jr, Emily Nedvidek, Iniki Roberts, Impulse Rep company members Robert Bryan Davis (a favorite at Actor's Express and many other Atlanta theatres) and Renee Skibinski, and Atlanta mainstay Betty Mitchell.

Impulse Repertory Company is a consortium of Atlanta-based actors seeking to produce works that nurture the audience-actor relationship at the core of the theatrical experience. We strive to get audiences up close and personal with performers as they bring characters to life that provoke discussions. Under the leadership of producing artistic director, Kara Cantrell, Impulse Rep produced two semi-professional seasons in 2011 and 2012, and now returns as a newly-minted 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional theatre company with a resident company. Resident company members/producers are Robert Bryan Davis, Chris Harding, Matt Lewis, Jason C. Louder, Jessica McGuire, Mary Saville, Renee Skibinski, and Vallea E. Woodbury.

Impulse Rep is in residence at Windmill Arts Center in East Point at 2823 Church St, Atlanta. Show schedule and ticket information can be found at www.impulserep.com.
