Horizon Theatre Company is bringing back the family favorite Madeline's Christmas for the seventh year and David Sedaris' comedic gem The Santaland Diaries for its 16th Anniversary Production. While The Santaland Diaries turns "ho-ho-ho" into "ha-ha-ha" giving adults-only an antidote to the holiday blues, Madeline's Christmas is holiday fun for all while 12 girls in two straight lines navigate getting home for the holidays.
Horizon Theatre jump starts the holiday season on Nov. 21 with The Santaland Diaries, directed by co-artistic and technical director Jeff Adler. Creative Loafing calls this non-traditional, adult-only, Christmas comedy "a fiendishly exhilarating, politically incorrect send-up of the holidays." This sardonic, satirical, and sarcastic play features our merry misanthrope, Crumpet, played for the 16th year by Harold M. Leaver, as he recounts the tale of his stint as a Macy's Department Store elf. Adapted from David Sedaris' best-selling book Holidays on Ice, this holiday tale is a modern classic, made famous when it aired on National Public Radio. Joining Leaver this year as Crumpet's sidekicks are Enoch King, returning for his ninth stint in Santaland after appearing in Horizon's productions The Waffle Palace and every tongue confess earlier this season, and for her third year, LaLa Cochran, most recently seen in the original cast of The Waffle Palace at Horizon, Walter Cronkite is Dead at Aurora Theatre, and Good People at the Alliance Theatre. The Santaland Diaries contains mature language and situations. It is not intended for children. Running November 21 - December 31, 2014, tickets and information are available at horizontheatre.com or 404.584.7450.
