HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED, DETROIT '67 and More Set for True Colors Theatre's 2014-15 Season

Artistic Director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company have announced the 2014-2015 season, opening in October with August Wilson's personal story How I Learned What I Learned co-conceived and directed by longtime Wilson collaborator Todd Kreidler. Following How I Learned What I Learned, True Colors will produce the 2014 Kennedy Award Winner for Drama, Dominique Morisseau's Detroit '67 directed by Hi-ARTS Artistic Director Kamilah Forbes, opening in February and running through March 2015. The season will close in July with Kevin Ramsey's Chasin' dem Blues a musical about the history of Paramount Records.

Performances are Wednesday - Saturday at 8 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 PM. All performances will be presented at Fulton County's Southwest Arts Center at 915 New Hope Rd, Atlanta, GA 30331. This solo show was created and performed in 2003 at Seattle Repertory Theatre by August Wilson and shares the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright's personal stories about his encounters with racism, music, love, a stint in jail, his first kiss, and life-changing friendships as a young poet in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Directed by the Wilson's long-time friend and collaborator Todd Kreidler, August Wilson's How I Learned What I Learned charts one man's journey of self-discovery through adversity and what it means to be a black artist in America.

Detroit '67

It's 1967 in Detroit and Motown music is getting the party started. Chelle and her brother Lank are making ends meet by turning the basement of their late parents' house into a cool, after-hours club. But when a mysterious woman finds her way into their lives, the siblings begin to clash over more than the family business. As their pent-up feelings erupt, so does the city around them, and they find themselves caught in the middle of the '67 riots in America's Motor City.

Chasin' dem Blues

"Blues is the roots, everything else is the fruits." So proclaimed Willie Dixon, blues composer, famed recording-session maestro, bass man, and an early bridge between the blues and rock 'n' roll. This thought is brought to life in the untold Story of Paramount Records, Chasin' dem Blues. This roof-raising show is a foot-stomping, multi-media musical celebration, which thrills audiences with storytellers' account of how a small Midwest town changed the landscapes of American music, and ushered in the sound of the early 20th century, a sound that still reverberates today.
