Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company is proud to announce its production of Miss Evers' Boys by David Feldshuh, directed by Kenny Leon, featuring Jasmine Guy, TC Carson and Eugene Lee. Performances will take place at Fulton County's Southwest Arts Center, March 4 - 21, 2009; performance times vary and are listed on the True Colors website, truecolorstheatre.org. Cast also includes Bart Hansard, Eric Little, Enoch King and E. Roger Mitchell.

An eye-opening drama about the Tuskegee Study, a scar on American history where 399 African-Americans were deceived by the United States Public Health Service. Chronicled through the experiences of a nurse (played by Jasmine Guy) who attempts to aid four men but self-serving doctors and Washington bureaucracy thwart her efforts.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:

Kenny Leon (Director) most recently directed Swimming Upstream a new work in collaboration with Eve Ensler and V-Day. In September Kenny directed August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean here in Atlanta at the ALLIANCE THEATRE and this past summer he directed the world premiere of Flashdance: The Musical which opened this past July in London. Kenny also directed August Wilson's Radio Golf on Broadway (four Tony nominations), the final installment of August Wilson's epic cycle of plays as well as August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean on Broadway (five Tony nominations) and the Tony Award winning revival of A Raisin in the Sun, both featuring Phylicia Rashad; the latter earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Director of a Play. This past spring Kenny was also the Artistic Director of August Wilson's 20th Century for the Kennedy Center. Other directing credits include the film version of A Raisin in the Sun, the world premier of Toni Morrison's opera Margaret Garner at the Michigan Opera Theater, the Off-Broadway hit Emergence-SEE! written and performed by Daniel Beatty; Blues from an Alabama Sky and From Mississippi Delta (Huntington Theatre). Prior to his role as Founding Artistic Director of True Colors, Kenny was Artistic Director of the ALLIANCE THEATRE for more than a decade, where he produced ten world premieres, including Elton John's Aida and Debbie Allen's Soul Possessed. Kenny's next theatrical project will include directing the stage adaptation of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner on Broadway, written by Todd Kreidler. Kenny has directed at regional theatres throughout the country, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, San Jose Rep, Chicago's Goodman Theatre, Boston's Huntington Theatre, Hartford Stage, Baltimore's Center Stage, New York's Public Theatre, Los Angeles' Center Theatre Group, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Dallas Theatre Center, Georgia Shakespeare, Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage and Theatre of the Stars. Recently inducted in the Atlanta Tribune's Hall of Fame Kenny as also been honored as one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2004, he received the MIT Eugene McDermott Award and Martell Cognac's "Rise Above Award", honoring his artistry and entrepreneurial spirit. Mr. Leon is a graduate and honorary Ph.D. of Clark Atlanta University and was chosen as one of the "Top 20 Southerners to Watch" by London's Financial Times.

ABOUT THE CAST

TC Carson, starred in the films "Livin Large" and "Firehawk" before landing the role as "Kyle Barker" on the hit Fox sitcom "Livin Single" starring Queen Latifa. Carson reprised the Barker role along with "Livin Single" co-star Erika Alexander, on the show "Half & Half". He provided the voice of "The Samuri Master" on the Samuel Jackson animated series "Afro Samuri" and is the voice of Mace Windu in the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". Additional film credits include: What Love Is, Final Destination Ii, In Conflict With Kismet, Proximity, Nature Boy, Her Married Lover, U-571,(Mathew Mcconaughey) Animatrix, Relax Its Just Sex,( Jennifer Tilly), Gang Related,(Tupac). Onstage TC has been seen in plays and musicals such as: The Wiz, Dreamgirls, Ain't Misbehavin, Black 2 Broadway, Once On This Island, Body Snatchers, Full Moon Of Sonia,(Sonia Sanchez), 2 Queens 1 Castle, and Gospel At Colonnus. I feel honored to have the opportunity to work with Kenny, the True Colors Theatre and a wonderful cast on one of our most celebrated playwright's works!
Jasmine Guy was recently seen on Atlanta stage in the True Colors Theatre Company and V-Day production of Swimming Upstream. Last summer she enjoyed her directorial debut in the critically acclaimed production of For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuff at Atlanta's 14th Street Playhouse. She is also featured in Howard Zinn's The People Speak along with greats John Legend, Viggo Mortensen, Danny Glover and many others. The Showtime series Dead Like Me is now a movie featuring Jasmine due out this fall. Her Broadway credits include Leader of the Pack, Grease, Beehive, The Wiz and Bob Fosse's Chicago as Velma Kelly. Jasmine co-starred in Spike Lee's School Daze, Eddie Murphy's Harlem Nights, the Jamaican indie film Kla$h, and most recently Tru Loved, a coming-of-age film opening in cities in October. In the early 90's Jasmine starred in "A Different World" as Whitley Gilbert, for which she won 6 consecutive NAACP Image Awards. She also debuted her self-titled album during this time. Jasmine authored the book "Evolution of a Revolutionary" about The Life of Afeni Shakur, mother of Tupac. Bart Hansard is thrilled to making his True Colors debut. He has appeared in many of Atlanta's finer theatrical venues including Theatrical Outfit, 7 Stages and Horizon Theatre. Most recently he played Mr. Fezziwig and Christmas Present in the ALLIANCE THEATRE's production of A Christmas Carol and Reginald in Dinosaur the Musical at Aurora Theatre. Other Alliance mainstage credits include The Grapes of Wrath, A Question of Mercy and A Death in the House Next Door to Kathleen Turner's House. He has also be privileged to be in many of Alliance Children's Theatre productions including The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer, Ferdinand the Bull and Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. Regional credits include A Tuna Christmas (Actors Theatre Louuisville) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Detroit's Attic). Numerous television and film appearances include reoccurring roles in "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" and "Good Eats" on the Food Network, "Déjà vu", "Why Did I Get Married" and "Broken Bridges". Graduate of the M.F.A. Program at Wayne State University/Hilberry Repertory Theatre. All my love to Miss Haley & Mr. Will.

Enoch King is an Atlanta native and proud to be a part of this production. This is his first show with True Colors. Previous regional credits: The Santaland Diaries (Horizon), Antigone and 2008 Summer Rep (GA Shakespeare), Go Dog Go! (Alliance Children's Theater) and The Jammer (Dad's Garage). He has guest starred on "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" and appeared in Drumline, The Fighting Temptations and Madea's Family Reunion. "I wouldn't be where I am in my art or my life if not for Freddie Hendricks. Freddie, you've been an inspiration, mentor, friend, second father and so much more. I'll do you proud! Thank you!"

Eugene Lee's acting career goes back to a university production of A Raisin in the Sun for President LynDon Johnson. Professional stage credits include: Gem of the Ocean (Broadway); August Wilson's Century Cycle (The Kennedy Center), Two Trains Running (Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre), and the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Soldier's Play (Negro Ensemble Company). Other Negro Ensemble Credits include: Home, Sons and Fathers of Sons, and Manhattan Made Me. He was seen recently at Huntington Theatre in Radio Golf and in True Colors Theatre Company's productions Fences and Ceremonies in Dark Old Men. Playwrighting credits include East Texas Hot Links; Fear Itself; Somebody Called: A Tale of Two Preachers; Killingsworth; and the musical Twist. Television credits include "Good Times", "The White Shadow", "The Guiding Light", "The District", the mini-series "The Women of Brewster Place" with Oprah Winfrey, "The Jackson Give: An American Dream" and "Wild Palms". Film Credits include: Blacklisted and Coach Carter. He has penned episodes for "Homicide: Life on the Streets", "Walker Texas Ranger", and "The Journey of Allen Strange". Mr. Lee serves as Artist in Residence and Artistic Director of the Texas State University Black and Latino Playwright's Conference.

Eric J. Little is happy to be making his True Colors debut. Eric has a MFA in acting from LSU. ATL credits: A Lesson Before Dying (Theatrical Outfit), August Wilson Full Circle -(Alliance/True Colors), Gee's Bend (Theatrical Outfit), Blue Door (Suzi Award nominee-Lead Actor, Theatre in the Square), Before it Hits Home (Reciprocity Theatre),Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth (GA Shakes), and Kaiser Perm. Ed. Theatre. Some other credits: You Can't Take it with You, The Exonerated, The Illusion, The Laramie Project, Two Gents, and Ma'Rainey all with Swine Palace/LSU. He's also an Imaginator at Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atl. and part Elizabeth Baptist's Drama Ministry. Thanks to God, fam/friends, Kenny, Lisa, Jody and the staff, cast, and crew.

E. Roger Mitchell was recently seen on stage in Atlanta in the ALLIANCE THEATRE's productions of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean and Radio Golf. Other Atlanta credits include Cuttin' Up, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and Flyin' West. He has made film appearances in S.W.A.T., The Legend of Bagger Vance, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Daddy's Little Girls, and HBO's Boycott and Warm Springs. TV credits: "The Shield", "Navy NCIS", "House of Payne", "Mama Flora's Family" and "Threat Matrix".

Patdro Harris (Choreographer) has combined his directing, choreographic and writing skills to become one of the most innovative and creative talents of our time.

He is nationally and internationally recognized and respected by fans, colleagues and critics. He was voted "... best director" by the Star Tribune Minneapolis. The Washington Post hails him as a "superb choreographer". The New York Times applauds his artistry as "praiseworthy". The Atlanta Journal-Constitution enthusiastically commends his work as "dynamic ... brilliant...solid season after season". From New York to Los Angeles, from Paris, France, to Tokyo, Japan, his accolades have been sung. He has directed at distinguished theaters such as The Alliance Theater, Sacramento Theatre Company, Round House Theater, Liberty Theater Cultural Center, San Diego Repertory Theater Company, Penumbra Theater, Tuskegee Repertory Theater, Ensemble Theater, True Colors Theater Company, and the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. He also served as choreographer, artistic consultant, and movement director with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Kennedy Center, Studio Theatre D.C., City Theatre of Pittsburgh, Minneapolis Mixed Blood Theatre, Theatrical Outfit, Jomandi Productions, The National Black Theatre Festival, Guthrie Theater, The National Black Arts Festival, Portland Center Stage, and Broadway's Royal Theatre.

True Colors Theatre Company is a National Theatre Company based in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Founded by Artistic Director Kenny Leon, and Managing Director Jane Bishop, True Colors strives to be an important voice in the American discussion of diversity including plays and playwrights from various times, cultures and perspectives.
