Georgia Shakespeare invites families to party like it's 1599 during Shakespeare's Birthday Party, Saturday, April 24, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Conant Performing Arts Center (4484 Peachtree Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA 30319). The event is free and open to the public and is recommended for children ages 3 - 10.
Highlighting the life and times of
William Shakespeare, Shakespeare's Birthday Party will feature Shakespeare-themed arts and crafts (sponsored by the Junior League of Atlanta), face painting, stage combat demonstrations, a jumping house, jugglers and performances. In addition, children will have an opportunity to dress up in Elizabethan costumes, have their picture taken with the Queen, enjoy birthday cake and other surprises. Hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Young visitors will also be treated to a visit from the great wizard Merlin of The Legend of the Sword in the Stone fame. Georgia Shakespeare presents a world-premiere production of young King Arthur's story as part of its Family Classics Series July 20 thru August 7 at the Conant Performing Arts Center. Discount tickets to The Legend of the Sword in the Stone will be available during Shakespeare's Birthday for only $10 each (regular price: $13).
