Free Woodruff Arts Center Family Festival to be Held on Valentine's Day

The Woodruff Arts Center announces its third free Family Festival, which will take place on Feb. 14 from 1 - 4 p.m. as part of the Family Fun at The Woodruff Arts Center initiative. The free Family Festival will feature family-oriented programming led by the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and High Museum of Art, including live theatre performances, a read aloud and book giveaway, a sweetheart photo station with props for all ages, an Indian dance class, Nigerian dance performances, an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra family concert live simulcast and more, all for free!

In addition to the free activities happening throughout the Arts Center, the High Museum of Art will offer free admission and multiple programs highlighting their permanent collection. Families can experience "Living Museum," a self-guided family tour where visitors will encounter musicians, artists, dancers, curators, scientists, storytellers, and more, throughout the permanent collection galleries. The High has also invited The Center for Puppetry Arts to facilitate a puppet factory, where families can build their own rod puppet inspired by the beloved "Elephant Headdress" from the High's African Art collection. Alliance Theatre for the Very Young will present a free performance of "A Bucket of Blessings," which is based on the New York Times-bestselling children's book by Kabir Sehgal and Surishtha Sehgal, at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the Alliance will host a read aloud and book signing by author Surishtha Sehgal and a book giveaway. In keeping with the Indian themed book, the Bharathakala Dance Academy will perform an Indian dance routine and offer a henna tattooing station.

The Grammy Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will present the family concert, "Be Mine," performed in Symphony Hall at 3 p.m. The concert is currently sold out, however, for any families who do not have tickets, the performance will be presented in a free live simulcast in the Rich Theatre in the Woodruff Arts Center's Memorial Arts Building. In addition, violinists will serenade guests in the Memorial Arts Building Galleria, and the Symphony will also offer an instrument petting zoo, which introduces children of all ages to musical instruments in an up-close and personal way.

To celebrate Valentine's Day, themed activities will include a "Be Mine" heart tattoo station, a Valentine heart-making station, Valentine's Day-themed food for purchase, and more!

This Family Festival is part of the larger Family Fun at The Woodruff Arts Center initiative, in which families can participate in art-making, interactive musical story times, composers-in-training sessions, instrument making, drop-in acting classes and more, for free, every Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. In addition, families have the opportunity to experience world-class productions and exhibitions at the Arts Center.
