Free Public Piano to Open at The Woodruff Arts Center This Weekend

The Woodruff Arts Center announces the unveiling of Atlanta's newest public piano, provided by Play Me Again Pianos, which will take place in a public celebration on Sifly Piazza on Sunday, August 21, at 2 PM.

The event will commence with a ribbon cutting ceremony and will include a performance by 11 year-old pianist Nico Brett. After Nico's performance, the piano will be open for all guests of The Woodruff Arts Center to play and enjoy! This public celebration will take place during CREATE ATL Family Sunday, held from 1 - 4 PM.

Art Teachers Theresa Dean and Courtney Denis painted the piano with assistance from students and alumni of Springmont, Atlanta's First Montessori School. Dean designed the piano's butterfly theme, titled Monarchs Take Flight. In keeping with Play Me Again Pianos' tradition of naming each installation, this piano will be called "Carly."

This permanent installation is the first of two pianos planned for The Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown. Play Me Again Pianos' first public piano is currently on display at Chastain Park in Atlanta. The second Woodruff Arts Center piano is slated for delivery in early September of 2016, followed by pianos at Colony Square in Midtown, Atlanta.

Family Sunday is part of the larger CREATE ATL Family Fun at The Woodruff Arts Center initiative, in which families can participate in art-making, interactive musical story times, composers-in-training sessions, instrument making, drop-in acting classes and more, for free, every Sunday from 1 - 4 PM. In addition, families have the opportunity to experience world-class productions and exhibitions at The Woodruff Arts Center.
