ELEVATE Presents Seven Panels and Workshops for Artists Next Month

As part of ELEVATE: Enlighten, the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs has created seven panels and workshops to help artists find more work and funding opportunities, learn how to protect their work, discover new ways to navigate relationships with public agencies and communities, and create art that makes a social statement. Workshops and Panels will be held during this year's festival, between October 14th and -21st, in the Watershed Auditorium, located at 72 Marietta Street, Atlanta, GA 30303. All classes are FREE but an RSVP is required to reserve your space.

Public Art Overview - Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 am-5:00 pm. Learn about public art trends and get tips for finding opportunities and submitting applications for public art projects, including basic project management skills, contract and legal issues, project team development. This workshop will be led by Patricia Walsh, Manager of Public Art Programs for Americans for the Arts. RSVP here: Public Art Overview

Know Your Materials - Sunday, October 15th from 2:00-4:00 pm. Learn from public art experts about best materials to use and engineering that will help your project last. Panelists include: Daniel Bauen, mechanical engineer and designer; Jeffry Loy, Former Fulton County Arts Conservation Manager and sculptor; and Robert Witherspoon, City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs Conservation and Maintenance Manager and sculptor. Funding Your Art - Monday, October 16th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Asia Hadley, Training Coordinator at The Foundation Center will give an overview of their funding resources, and panelists will answer questions about finding different funding for your public art projects. Panelists include: Maria Artemis, Artist and Art Institute of Chicago, Faculty/Mentor; Monica Prothro, City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, Art Program Manager, Arts & Education; and Fred Yalouris, Atlanta Beltline, Design Director. Working with Public Agencies - Tuesday, October 17th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Hear from public art administrators about processes and procedures when working with public agencies. Panelists include: Katherine Dirga, MARTA, Arts Administrator; Angie Macon, Decatur Arts Alliance, Executive Director; Dorian McDuffie, City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, Public Art Manager; and Lisa Tuttle, Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture, Program Manager. Laws, Insurance and Nitty Gritty - Wednesday, October 18th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Georgia Lawyers for the Arts will be giving an overview on basic copyrights for artists. Haven Insurance will discuss general liability insurance for artists working outside. This workshop will be led by Matthew Goings, Intellectual Property Attorney at Goings Legal, LLC and Director of Operations for Georgia Lawyers for the Arts; and Peter McLoud, Vice President at Haven Insurance Group. Community Empowered Art, Artist Empowered Communities - Thursday, October 19th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Artists and community members will discover the benefits of working together, how to create a common language, and ways to attract key stakeholders to their projects. Led by Jessyca Holland, C4 Atlanta Executive Director, and Audrey Gámez, C4 Atlanta Education Manager; Foluke Beveridge, Nonprofit Marketer; and Jacquay Waller, CEO at DreamCatcher ENT, this workshop is presented by C4 Atlanta. The Arts and Social Justice - Saturday, October 21st from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Join local arts activists as they inspire you to use your art as a statement for a cause. Panelists include: Sheila Pree Bright, Photographic artist, Visual producer; Jessica Caldas, Artist, Arts Advocate, Activist; Grace Gipson, Visiting Professor in African American Studies at Georgia State University and 2nd year PhD. student in African American/African Diaspora Studies at University of California, Berkeley; and BranDon Jones, WonderRoot, Director of Creative Placemaking.
