This powerful rendition of the Christmas Story fills the theatre with thrilling voices, exciting dance and glorious gospel music.. Through dance, powerful spirituals and toe-tapping gospel numbers, the story of Mary and Joseph's journey is recreated in a soul-stirring musical celebration. A testament to the power of gospel music, the story of the Nativity is told through the combination of scripture, poetry, dance and song that connects a contemporary church revival to the time of mangers and swaddling clothes. This joyous evening brings the real meaning of faith and love to life for the entire family.
This year Black Nativity will also feature performances from some of Atlanta's most acclaimed praise & worship teams and chorales as part of the production. Atlanta churches interested in being included in the performance are encouraged to connect with the director at music@blacknativityatlanta.com.
Langston Hughes, an African American, was one of the most prominent American writers and cultural icons of the 20th century. Black Nativity, written in 1961, is based on a religious theme, the birth story of Jesus, but the importance of the play is as an expression of African American culture through gospel music.
