About the Play
Go ahead, scream a little - it's good for you. This wickedly clever thriller is filled with twists, turns, shocking moments and plenty of laughter. Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a "dry" spell when he receives a script from a student. Sidney devises a devilish plan, and with his wife's help, to collaborate with the student. We soon discover that the playwright is prepared to go to any lengths to alter his fortunes, even murder. What "Psycho" did for Hollywood,Deathtrap did for Broadway - this is a must see!
Georgia Ensemble Theatre Artistic Director Bob Farley states, "Deathtrap has been on my radar for several years, and I am thrilled to finally bring you this chiller which is without doubt the crème de la crème of the psychological thriller genre. This play was a long running hit on Broadway. I recall somewhat nostalgically being a child growing up in St. Louis during the heyday of black and white horror films during the '50s and early '60s. It was an added spine tingler to consider heeding the warnings that the scares were so terrifying a nurse or doctor would be on duty in the lobby to help the patrons recover. This was often followed by the dire consequences of revealing the story's secrets and shocking ending. Through playwright Ira Levin's masterful manipulation and the skills of this extraordinary cast you may consider yourself duly forewarned! (There is no nurse or doctor, but we do have a defibrillator if needed.)"
Note: This play contains mature content and some colorful language.
