Core Dance, the award-winning contemporary dance organization based in Atlanta and Houston (www.coredance.org), will present its 37th season of original dance works and community-based performances and outreach.
In Atlanta this season, Core Performance Company (CPC) will perform internationally renowned choreographer Germana Civera's Human Landscapes, a work that focuses on the stories, history and memories that shape the migrant experience. The season will also feature the popular Lunchtime in the Studio series, Fieldwork, National Water Dance, and the EnCore: Dance on Film Festival.
In September, the Company will travel to Tel Aviv to perform the Israeli and International Premiere of Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor's American Playground, a work that investigates multiple themes including "body as resistance," personal authenticity and the dialogue between public and private spaces. American Playground had its American premiere as part of the Exposed Festival in Atlanta in 2016.
Also in September, the Core Performance Company will begin its "Civil Twilight" residency in Little Rock, AR. commemorating, in part, the "Little Rock Nine," the nine African-American students who courageously entered Little Rock's Central High School on September 25, 1957, ushering in a continued endeavor for equal education under the law.
In May, the Company will create a performance work, in tandem with the community, in and around a Labyrinth of light on Decatur Square. This popular event, called walk, contemplates the changing nature of the individual within our briskly changing world, with the Labyrinth offers a sacred space for this community experience. Date and time TBD.
Throughout the season, Core Dance continues its transformative community-based initiative, Dynamic X-Change, a healing arts program that uses movement as a catalyst for change. Community partners in Atlanta are Clarkston Community Center and East Atlanta Kids Club. The program receives support from Georgia Council for the Arts.
