Bill Oberst Jr, best-known to TV viewers as a recurring serial killer on the CBS series Criminal Minds, brings his one-man stage portrayal Mark Twain Live, to Stone Mountain's ART Station Theatre January 13-17, 2016. Ticket information is available at www.artstation.org or by calling (770) 469-1105. Performances are at 8pm Wednesday, Jan 13 through Saturday, January 16 and at 3pm on Sunday, January 17. ART Station is located at 5384 Manor Drive in Historic Stone Mountain Village.
The Los Angeles-based actor is known for villainous roles onscreen (his guest star appearances on Criminal Minds landed him on the network's list of the show's Most Notorious Serial Killers, and he's played bad guys in 100 movies in the last six years) but Oberst said the stage, and his native South, is where he feels most at home. He toured a stage portrayal of Georgia author Lewis Grizzard for a decade, and says there are similarities between Grizzard and Twain. "I consider Mark Twain and Lewis Grizzard to be sort of bookends of 20th century Southern culture;" the actor said,"both had the unique ability to make you laugh one minute and cry the next. Both were larger than life, both had personal tragedy behind the humor and both were cynical as hell at times."
Oberst has performed in the space before and says he's eager to do it again. "A one-person show is a tight-wire act. ART Station Theatre has a lovely intimate quality that gives a performance like this a shot at succeeding. The rest is up to me. I've done this show over 1,000 times, but each time is the first time. My goal is to honor a great man. So I work hard and try to make it look easy."
