This week the Fabulous Fox Theatre hosts the national tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein's THE KING AND I. This comes right after the 2015 Broadway revival earned a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award in their perspective categories for best revival of a musical.

The Broadway classic, which made its debut in 1951, tells the true story of Anna arriving in Bangkok, Siam (now Thailand), to tutor the children of the royal family. Her presence is requested by the King in an effort to seek education from the West to bring their country into the modern world.

The story shows the conflict and relationship between Anna, the King and his family. Think "Sound of Music" but under much different plot and geographical circumstances.

Theatergoers are sure to have an exceptional experience as well, considering that Tony Award-winning Bartlett Sher is the director of the tour. Before being Tony-nominated for his direction of THE KING AND I, Sher directed the 2008 Broadway revival of "South Pacific," earning himself both Tony and Drama Desk Awards. He has also received nominations for his direction of "The Light in the Piazza," "The Bridges of Madison County," and the 2016 revival of "Fiddler on the Roof."

The revival also won a Tony Award for best costume design and was nominated for choreography, lighting, scenic design and direction. Kelli O'Hara and Ruthie Ann Miles also won Tony Awards for their roles in the show.

The show itself will run at Atlanta's Fabulous Fox Theatre through October 1 with matinee and evening shows available. Tickets can be purchased online.
