Aurora Theatre continues the Brand Signature Series with the Star Wars-themed comedy, All Childish Thingsrunning October 3-27, 2013. In his mom's basement in Cincinnati, Dave and his friends are plotting a caper that will deliver them from the Darth Vader-like clutches of life's dark side. As die-hard Star Wars enthusiasts, Dave's plan involves stealing a stash of coveted collectibles. Against Jabba-sized odds, their plan is so crazy, it just might work. This new comedy is more fun than a barrel of Wookies. The play is written by Joseph Zettelmaier, a Michigan-based playwright and four-time nominee for the Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Award for best new play including All Childish Things.
Fueled by fan conventions (like DragonCon), and technology-based industries, Science Fiction and "Geek" culture entertainment are extremely popular. Aurora is working to engage these fans, by planning several events that will make All Childish Things even more fun. Aurora Theatre is even offering a FREE ticket to anyone with a DragonCon badge to preview performances on October 1-2 at 8pm. Reservations are required and tickets are subject to availability, therefore call or email to reserve a space: 678.226-6222 or boxoffice@auroratheatre.com.
Storm Troopers will invade Aurora Theatre on Saturday, October 5 as the Georgia Garrison of the 501st Legion will appear in conjunction with performances that day. The 501st Legion is dedicated to re-creating film-quality costumes of the "villainous" characters of the Star Wars galaxy and entertaining Star Warsfans with public appearances especially to benefit non-profits like Aurora Theatre. Folks will be able to pose for photos and mingle with these special guests following the matinee and prior to the evening performance on October 5.
Cosplay (short for costume play), is another way for science fiction and animation fans to express their appreciation for their passion. Aurora hates the thought of all of these great costumes sitting in a closet waiting for the next convention, so they invite folks to wear their favorite costumes to the theatre on October 11. Cosplay participants will get $10 off tickets to the show that Friday when they order online with the promo code: Cosplay. Then be sure to be in costume for the show that night.
Every Wednesday night at Aurora is Wine Down Wednesday and features a FREE pre-show wine tasting in the Aurora Theatre lobby in conjunction with Leslie the Wine Gal and Big Boat Wine Company. Wine Down Wednesday's for All Childish Things are on October 9 and 16 from 6:30 - 8pm. Special selections of themed wines are featured at each event, and patrons may purchase a full pour of their favorites at the concession stand.
Once again, Aurora Theatre has assembled an array of Atlanta's top talent for this production. The cast features many Aurora patron favorites including Bryan Brendle, Cara Mantella, Enoch King and Rob Cleveland, who was recently nominated for the Suzi Award for Best Actor in a play for his performance in Aurora's Master Harold...and the boys. After recently completing the first Aurora Apprentice program, Michael Jared Tarver takes on the role of Dave Bullanski. The play is under the direction of self-proclaimed Geek, Scott Warren, who also directed the world premiere of Two Drink Minimum at Theatrical Outfit.
