Escape the cold this winter with Aurora Theatre's hot theatre events fit for the entire family! Want to spice up your acting chops? Aurora's new #AllTheSkills Workshops are the perfect remedy. Kiddos need some indoor fun? Bring them in for Aurora's Mini, Master and Budding Broadway classes. Their Acting Edge class will take the edge off of your middle-schooler. Stage fright? Don't worry! Stand-up comic and actor Katie Causey will show you the ropes. If music is more your style, try your hand at the Zampoña Pan Flute with John Zorrilla and dive deep into South America's history with music abound. Whether you're looking to break into the show business, or just looking for some good old-fashioned entertainment, Aurora Theatre's winter programming has everything you need!

Winter Special Educational Programming

#AllTheSkills Workshops (Grade 9-12)

Wednesdays February 3, March 2, April 13 and May 4; 5:30-7:30 p.m.

High school students can learn #AllTheSkills in this killer new series of workshops led by some of Atlanta's best professional artists, happening once a month on Wednesday nights! Students can sign up for any individual workshop that fits their schedule or register for all workshopsto receive a discount! Please remember that there is a one-time student registration fee of $25. With space limited to 15 students per class, pre-bookingis recommended.All proceeds go to benefit the Aurora Apprentice Program.

Sketch Comedy

Wednesday, February 3; 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Love comedies like Inside Amy Schumer, Portlandia and Saturday Night Live? Get a crash course in funny with professional stand-up comic and actor Katie Causey! Learn about the hottest genre in entertainment by writing sketches, finding the funny and partaking in comedy performances.

Stage Combat

Whoop-POW! Ever wonder how actors deliver that distinctive ring of a hand slapping a face? How about the punches that look too realistic not to be true? Fight choreogapher Drew Reeves teaches these techniques and more in this exhilarating combat workshop.

Shakespeare

Wednesday, April 13; 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Taught by Tiffany Porter

Learn how to tame the tongue-twisting text from the greatest playwright in the English language! With coaching from renowned local thespian Tiffany Porter, young actors will tackle the tricky Elizabethan language with dexterity by way of fun phrases and hilarious insults!

For elementary school students interested in acting, the Mini, Master and Budding Broadway classes are perfect in providing valuable stage experience, while also encouraging teamwork and collaboration with peers. Students will be active participants in creating portions of the sets, costumes and props for these exciting, whirlwind productions. Tuition is $200 per session and there is a one-time student registration fee of $25. With space limited to 15 students per class, pre-booking is recommended. Calling all teens! Take the drama out of your life and put it where it belongs-on stage! Through a series of theatre games, exercises and exploration, the Acting Edge class will become an ensemble of players rehearsing a collection of scenes to perform for friends and family. Tuition is $200 per session. Enrollment is limited to 15 students in each class, and there is a one-time new student registration fee of $25. Adult Acting Classes (18+)

Mondays, February 8-March 14; 7:30-9:30 p.m.

It's never too late to make the leap. In the Aurora Theatre Academy Adult Acting Class, learn the craft and technique of acting used by the professionals. Work on skills like cold readings, monologue delivery, auditioning with confidence and learn how to succeed in the business of show business. Tuition is $200 per session. Enrollment is limited to 15 students in each class, and there is a one-time new student registration fee of $25. A discount is available for students taking multiple sessions or for families with multiple students!

Events Continuing in January

Aurora Children's Playhouse

January 23, 30 and Feburary 6 at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Aurora Theatre continues its Children's Playhouse series for families with young chlidren, a variety of lively performances featuring jugglers, musicians, storytellers and more for all ages to enjoy. This year's lineup includes new performers, as well as returning audience favorites! Performances are select Saturday mornings at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $7; Playhouse Tickets will also be accepted. Reservations are recommended.

· January 23, 2016- Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Justin Anderson

· January 30, 2016- The Reluctant Dragon by All Hands Production

· Feburary 6, 2016- The Jongleur of Notre Dame by Ron Anglin of Quite a Catch

Apu Inka Zampoña Pan Flute Workshop:

FREE to any H.o.P.e Student

February 6-7, February 13-14 and February 20-21

Study the Zampoña Pan Flute with John Zorrilla, master musician and founder of music group Apu Inka, and connect with the rich history and traditions of South America's ancient Incan Empire culture. Aurora theatre will provide all participants with their own Zampoña Pan Flute at no charge. Upon completion of this intensive workshop, students will be invited to perform in the Teatro Aurora season finale, The Legend of the Inka Empire with Apu Inka on the Mainstage, June 11, 2016. Please note-sessions are 90 minutes long with start times at either 10 a.m. or 12 p.m. Due to the limited capacity, students must be able to attend all sessions in order to participate.
