With school back in session and families settling into the school year, Aurora Theatre announces an amazing array of classes for students this fall. The acclaimed Aurora Theatre Academy offers sessions for any student. From beginners to advanced and covering students in 1st-12th grade programs as well as, an Adult Acting Class. Aurora Theatre Director of Education, Jaclyn Hofmann, has put together an incredible team of teaching professionals, who you may have spotted on stage around Atlanta or on screen anywhere from Georgia Lottery commercials to HBO.
Aurora Theatre Academy Preparing Students to Perform Like Professionals
Aurora Theatre, being the only professional theatre in Gwinnett County, is the ideal place for people to study the arts. What distinguishes Aurora Theatre Academy from other programs is that students have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a world-class venue, and the instructors are working professionals with years of real-world theatrical experience. In addition to receiving training to be a winner onstage, students build confidence, improve communication and learn life skills that will be a valuable part of their bright futures.
Fall Classes Open House: Thursday, August 21 from 4:30-6:30pm
Prospective students will get to participate in sample classes, FREE of charge, and experience some of the theatre games & exercises that happen throughout a semester of classes, while parents will be able to ask questions as well as tour Aurora Theatre's modern facilities. Light refreshments will be served.
Aurora Academy One Day Sale for Fall Classes on August 21
Sign up for any Aurora Academy Fall Class on August 21 and get $25 per student off your total registration. The offer is good all day on August 21 online or in-person at Aurora Theatre. The sale coincides with the Open House to make things easy for parents of perspective students, but you may take advantage of it any time on August 21 (not just during Open House hours).

Elementary School Students
Aurora Theatre Academy's Mini (Grades 1 -3) and Master Classes (Grades 4-5) classes give students the opportunity to learn what it takes to put on a play. Students will be provided with valuable stage experience, all the while encouraging teamwork and collaboration with peers. The experience instills a sense of self-confidence in our students. They will be active participants in creating portions of the sets, costumes, and props for these exciting, whirlwind productions presented to family and friends.
Aurora Theatre Academy Intensive Classes for Middle and High School Students
The Acting Edge classes for Middle and High School Students encourage Teens to take the drama out of their life and put it where it belongs - on stage! Through a series of theatre games, exercises, and exploration, the class will become an ensemble of players rehearsing a collection of scenes to be performed for friends & family. Students learn acting technique, team building skills, and are given an outlet to express their creativity in these classes.
Aurora Theatre Academy for Adults
Adult Improvisational Acting is perfect for the person wanted to act or maybe just feel more comfortable in front of an audience, and is ready to make the leap. In the Aurora Theatre Academy Adult Improvisation Acting Class, learn the craft and technique of Improvisational Acting. Work on skills like thinking fast on your feet, being a good collaborator by saying "Yes, and...," building confidence for public speaking, and having a BLAST while doing it!

Aurora Theatre Academy Faculty Fall 2014
Jaclyn Hofmann (Director of Education) has a BFA in Theatre Performance from Jacksonville University and an MFA in Acting from Michigan State University, where she taught undergraduate acting courses for three years. She's taught locally for Atlanta Shakespeare Company, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Aurora Academy, and Kennesaw State University. Jaclyn is currently an Adjunct Theatre Teacher at Georgia Gwinnett College. She is also a proud co-founding member of The Weird Sisters Theatre Project. This season at Aurora, Jaclyn is excited to co-direct the Learning Library production of Stinky Kids and the Main Stage production, The Explorer's Club. She is also lucky enough to be returning in her role in The Twelve Dates of Christmas at Aurora Theatre this December!
Catie Councell (Mini and Home School Instructor) is delighted to be on the Aurora Teaching Staff. This summer she taught for several of the Aurora Academy Summer Camp Sessions. She is a graduate of the Aurora Apprentice Company, and has performed on stage here in The Cat in the Hat, Milo at the Movies, and understudied in Lombardi. Catie received a BFA in Acting from Brenau University. Some of her past credits include Gwendolen Fairfax in The Importance of Being Earnest, Ilona Ritter in She Loves Me, and various roles in the touring Gainesville Theatre Alliance Repertory Company.
Jessica De Maria (Master Class Instructor) is a two time graduate of Oglethorpe University with a degree in Theatre, Shakespeare and Renaissance Studies. Currently she is also teaching artist at the Center for Puppetry Arts, Georgia Ensemble Theatre and the Alliance Theatre. As a performer, Jessica has worked with Pinch N' Ouch Theatre, Synchronicity Theatre, Georgia Ensemble Theatre and was in Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood and Les Miserables here at Aurora, and is currently in Mary Poppins!
Tony Larkin (Acting Edge High School and Adult Improv Instructor) has been working in professional theatre since he was ten years old, primarily in Atlanta, but also in Boston, Florida and New York. After getting his BFA in Acting from the FSU School of Theatre, Tony spent four years in NYC where he performed several times at Theatre Row, Theatre for a New City, The Bank Street Theatre and Lincoln Center among others. Since returning to Atlanta in 2008, Tony has worked with The Alliance, GA Shakespeare, Theatre in the Square, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Actor's Express, Dad's Garage and, of course, Aurora. He will be back on stage in Aurora's The Explorer's Club this Spring!
Tiffany Porter (Acting Edge Middle School Instructor) is always excited to teach at Aurora! She has her BFA in Professional Acting from The School of Theatre and Dance at East Carolina University. Tiffany is regularly seen performing at the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern, as well as, recently at Horizon Theatre in Elemeno Pea and in The Weird Sisters' Criminal Hearts. Tiffany is also on the Producing Team for The Weird Sisters Theatre Project.
