The show that revolutionized musical theatre and was the biggest box office hit in Atlanta Lyric Theatre's 35-year history is returning this summer! It is time to re-introduce your family to the wonders of live theater with the magic, the mystery, the memory of CATS, playing July 17, 18, & 19, 2015 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre (2800 Cobb galleria Pkwy., Atlanta). Tickets are available at www.TicketMaster.com, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Box Office, or by calling (800) 745-3000.
CATS opened on Broadway on October 7, 1982 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. It continued to live up to its motto "Now and Forever" by becoming the longest running musical on Broadway on June 19, 1997 after 6,138 performances. CATS ended its 18-year run on September 10, 2000 after 7,485 performances. It remains the second longest-running show in Broadway history, after its record was broken by The Phantom of the Opera on January 9, 2006 when Phantom celebrated its 7,486th curtain.
Based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS won seven 1983 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting, and Best Costumes.
With direction by Ricardo Aponte and choreography by Jennifer Smiles, CATS is still revolutionary and awe inspiring.
The Lyric cast features local artists Shawn Megorden, Jevares C. Myrick, Nick Hagelin, Jen MacQueen, Austin Tijerina, Ansley Van Epps, Jeremy Varner, Alison Brannon Wilhoit, Robert Wayne, George Deavours, Imani Joseph, Jason Cohen, Fenner Eaddy, Natalie Rhae Goodwin, Cassandra Mora, John Streit, Jennifer Arnold, Rex Glover, and Pablina Lopez.
