Atlanta Lyric Theatre Presents DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS Image

Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents this fun filled musical comedy February 9-25, 2018. Two con men, three exceptional women, and the elite of the French Riviera collide in this sexy and irreverent farce. DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS performs at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre (548 South Marietta Pkwy., Marietta). For tickets, reservations and group pricing visit www.AtlantaLyric.com or call 404-377-9948.

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, based on the popular 1988 film, takes us to the French Riviera for high jinks, romance and hilarity. Sophisticated, suave and full of mischief, this hysterical comedy features a delightful score and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards.

Lawrence Jameson (Bryant Smith) makes his living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Freddy Benson (Chase Peacock) more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. A hilarious battle of cons, illicit romances and takes ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end!

The artistic and production team for Atlanta Lyric's production of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS features direction by Rick Lombardo. Lombardo was represented off-Broadway last season with ALBATROSS at 59E59 and RING TWICE for MIRANDA at City Center. He was previously the Artistic Director at San Jose Repertory Theatre and Boston's New Repertory Theatre. Rick is currently Chair of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Kennesaw State University. DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS also features music direction by Paul Tate and choreography by Lauren Brooke Tatum. Christopher Dills designs the set with lighting design by Ben Rawson. Sound, Costume and Wig Design will be created by John McKenzie, Amanda Edgerton West and George Deavours, respectively.

The principal performers are some of Atlanta's best and brightest musical comedy stars including, Bryant Smith, Chase Peacock, Galen Crawley, Jessica De Maria, Steve Hudson and Allison McDowell.

Smith makes his return to the Lyric Stage after last appearing as Father in RAGTIME. Smith enjoyed two turns as Jean Val Jean in Aurora Theatre's production and subsequent remount of the highly acclaimed LES MISERABLES, and he has enjoyed the shoes of other leading men all over town including King Arthur (CAMELOT, Georgia Ensemble Theatre) and Don Quixote (MAN of LA MANCHA, Serenbe Playhouse). In 2009, Smith appeared in a production of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS at Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, NY and the show is glad to welcome him back.

Chase Peacock has been a beloved staple on the Lyric Stage since he returned to his hometown from Broadway's AMERICAN IDIOT. Chase was most recently seen as Elvis in MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and other Lyric performances include DAMN YANKEES and the utterly marvelous CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. He won a Suzi Bass Award for his acclaimed performance in MISS SAIGON at Serenbe Playhouse and enjoyed yet another nomination for his turn in GHOST at Georgia Ensemble Theatre. Other favorites include the National Tour of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, EVITA at Serenbe Playhouse and his work as the co-writer (with Jessica De Maria) of VIVIAN, a musical ghost story produced at the Lyric's Studio Theatre in the Square this past October.

The Atlanta Lyric is overjoyed to welcome Galen Crawley back as Christine Colgate after her critically lauded performance as Eliza Doolittle in this year's MY FAIR LADY. Galen has also graced the Lyric Stage in JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT, EDGES and RAPUNZEL. Crawley was awarded a Suzi Bass for MARY POPPINS at the Aurora Theatre in 2014 and has enjoyed work all over the city and beyond including Actor's Express, Theatrical Outfit, The Shakespeare Tavern and the ALLIANCE THEATRE.

Jessica De Maria (Muriel Eubanks) returns to the Lyric after most recently appearing in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Other Lyric performances include DAMN YANKEES and EDGES. De Maria has appeared off-Broadway as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2015 and has tread across stages all over Atlanta in a variety of roles from MURDER BALLAD and SWEENEY TODD at Actor's Express to MACBETH at Serenbe Playhouse and her Suzi Nominated performance in KISS ME KATE at Stage Door Players.

Making his Atlanta Lyric debut, Steve Hudson (Andre Thibault), was most recently seen in THE COMEDY OF ERRORS at the Shakespeare Tavern. An incredibly versatile character actor, Hudson has also been seen in THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME at Aurora Theatre/Theatrical Outfit, as Larry in COMPANY at Actors Express, and as Stephen Spettigue in CHARLEY'S AUNT at Georgia Ensemble Theatre.

Allison McDowell (Jolene Oakes) returns to the Lyric after enjoying a prolific career on Broadway in CHICAGO and on the National Tour of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, and as a member of the American Musical Theatre Dance Company in Beijing. Allison most recently appeared on the Lyric Stage as Sheila in our landmark production of A CHORUS LINE and we're so glad she's joining us again.

Rounding out the ensemble are Lauren Tatum, J. Koby Parker, Arielle Geller, Fenner Eaddy, Alyssa Michelle, Brian Jordan, Bonnie Harris, Jonathan Chisolm, Megan Wheeler, Quentin Brown and Jordan Keyon Smith.

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, is the third show in the Lyric's 38th Season and is followed by ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE and The Family favorite, TARZAN, the MUSICAL.

Our 39th Season of Musicals will be announced January 6th.
