The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Alex Malone as the Orchestra's Managing Producer of Symphony Pops, effective June 16, 2014.
In this role, Mr. Malone will work in collaboration with ASO Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski and other members of the Orchestra's leadership team to create, plan, and execute an annual symphony pops season that meets the institution's artistic and financial goals.
Prior to joining the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Malone worked for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, where he was a vital member of their pops programming team for the past six years. He was integral in the implementation and success of Yuletide Celebration -now a 29-year symphonic holiday tradition- as well as numerous original shows and world premieres. Concert highlights include working with Liza Minnelli, Sandi Patty, Chris Botti, and Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg on a new symphonic production of LES MISERABLES, as well as a multitude of Broadway stars. Some of the more unique and exciting projects Mr. Malone was involved with include world premiere musicals in concert with full Broadway casts, and symphonic arrangements of well-known musicals, such as Hello, Dolly! andAnything Goes.
"I am thrilled to be joining Michael Krajewski and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to create original and exciting symphonic pops productions for Atlanta," said Mr. Malone. "The musicians of the ASO are second to none - I feel the community is poised, and the time is right, to create amazing symphonic concert events for everyone. The power of great music played by the best musicians, all lead by Mr. Krajewski, is exhilarating."
"We are both thrilled and very fortunate to have Alex join the creative team of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra," said Atlanta Symphony Orchestra President & CEO Stanley E. Romanstein, Ph.D. "With his diverse experience, we are confident he will continue to grow the Orchestra's beloved pops programs, ultimately helping drive even deeper connections between the ASO and its audiences through these great, live musical experiences."
Before joining the Indianapolis Symphony, Mr. Malone was an actor and musician in Chicago. He has also performed with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and many other companies around the country. He earned his bachelor's degree in musical theatre from the University of North Texas and his master's degree in musical theatre performance from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland.
