Grace and Glorie by Tom Ziegler opens Oct. 2, 2015, kicking off the new season for both Academy Theatre and Impact Theatre Atlanta.
Grace is a feisty 90-year-old who has checked herself out of the hospital and returned to her quaint cottage in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Gloria, a transplanted New Yorker with a Harvard MBA, is now volunteering as her caregiver. At first, cultures and generations hilariously collide, but over time they realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined. A celebration of the strength and resiliency of women at every age, "Grace & Glorie" is a poignant comedy about love, loss, and the search for meaning in all of our lives.
"From smoke in the kitchen to mousse and mascara, Grace and Glorie learn about relationships and respect - respect for life," says Mary Anne Brannon, starring as Grace in her debut performance at Academy Theatre.
Says Director Brenda Porter, "Impact Theatre Atlanta and Academy Theatre share missions of creating thought-provoking shows that stimulate conversations. With that in mind, we will be having "talkbacks" after many of our shows. These talkbacks will include the cast as well as professionals with experience in various forms of at-home care, including care for cancer patients and the elderly."
Lynna Schmidt, starring as Gloria, adds, "I am delighted to be able to work with Mary Anne Brannon on Grace and Glorie! She has a delightful energy and we are not only working hard but laughing a lot! Also, I have wanted to work with Brenda Porter for a long time. She is an outstanding director with a great ability to get the very best out of her actors."
This show is suitable for ages 13 and up.
