The Academy Theatre is bringing the heartfelt comedy "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling to the stage! Lynna Schmidt is producing, directing, and starring as M'Lynn.
"This year is the thirtieth anniversary of Steel Magnolias. Fans have been asking when we would bring this show to Hapeville, and this seems to be the perfect time," says Lynna Schmidt, who also starred in Academy's Shooting Star and Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
Set in 1980's Louisiana in Truvy's beauty shop, six southern women gather to chat and support each other. Their story of love, laughter, loss, beauty, and strength has inspired a generation.
"This cast is phenomenal!" says Fracena Byrd, who plays Annelle. "This show is definitely going to be the fan favorite of the season." Fracena has also starred in Academy productions of Yellowman, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and Plaza Suite.
The cast includes Mary Anne Brannon (Grace and Glorie) and Kay Bohan (Last of the Red Hot Lovers). Meggie Foster McCann and Kathryn Wood are making their debut on the Academy Stage.
