Aurora Theatre invites you to curl up with the psychological drama A Body of Water, by nationally renowned playwright and Pulitzer Prize nominee Lee Blessing, running January 19 – February 12, 2012.

The mystery begins on a beautiful summer morning as Avis and Moss wake up in a handsomely appointed cottage surrounded by water on all sides. This attractive, middle-aged pair has no recollection of who they are or how they ended up in the same bed. Enter Wren, an enigmatic young woman, who has either come to comfort or torment them. As the play unfolds, we begin to wonder if the pair really wants to know the truth.

Once again, Aurora Theatre has assembled some of the region's hottest talent for this production. Fresh off her second straight Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding Actress, Tess Mails Kincaid (Broke, August: Osage County-ALLIANCE THEATRE) will be making her Aurora Theatre debut as Avis. She will play opposite her husband Mark Kincaid (Carapace-ALLIANCE THEATRE; Dracula-Aurora Theatre) who returns to the Aurora as Moss. Another returning veteran is Cara Mantella (Army Wives-Lifetime Television, Tranced-Aurora Theatre) as the inscrutable Wren. Actors Express Artistic Director and longtime Aurora Theatre artist, Freddie Ashley leads this all-star cast.

About the Playwright
Lee Blessing has been a major force in post-1960's American theatre. Blessing's best-known play is A Walk in the Woods, which depicts the developing relationship between two arms limitation negotiators, one Russian and one American, over years of negotiation. The play was nominated for both a Tony award and a Pulitzer Prize. His other most notable works include: Eleemosynary, about three generations of independent women; and Cobb, which explored the many facets of baseball legend Ty Cobb. His most recent plays include A Body of Water, Thief River, Whores, The Scottish Play, Black Sheep, Fortinbras, and many others. Blessing has earned both and Obie and Drama Desk Award. Other honors include: The American Theater Critics Circle Award, the L.A. Drama Critics Award, The Great American Play Award, The Humanitas Award and the George and Elisabeth Marton Award. Blessing currently heads the graduate playwriting program at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

Producer Quote
Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director Anthony Rodriguez, "I have longed to produce this play for years. At its core, the playwright uses amnesia as the core of the mystery, but Blessing's incredible command of language lets the audience get a disconcerting chance to feel what that confusion is like. From the director, the designers, and the amazing actors we have assembled, I know that this journey is going to be well-worth the wait."

Programming in Aurora Theatre's 2011-2012 Main Stage Season is possible through generous support from Metro Waterproofing and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund. A Body of Water is sponsored by Georgia Gwinnett College.
