One of the most popular new musicals of the season -- [title of show], which extended its run three times Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre will return, by popular demand, for a limited engagement this summer starting July 14, an 8-week commercial run produced by Kevin McCollum, Laura Camien, and the Vineyard Theatre -- at the Vineyard Theatre! (108 East 15th Street)
An instant critical and popular success, [title of show] has been entertaining cheering audiences since it began its scheduled six week run February 15, 2006 as part of the Vineyard Theatre's 2005-06 season. Terrific reviews and audience response resulted in three extensions at the Vineyard. (The musical must close April 30 to make way for the Vineyard's final production of the season, Mary Pat Gleason's play STOPPING TRAFFIC, May 24 to June 25.)
[title of show] will have an Original Cast Album recorded by Ghostlight Records -- a division of Sh-K-Boom Records -- with a recording date set for early May, 2006 and a release date TBA.
Written by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell, directed by Michael Beresse, [title of show] -- a hilarious and bittersweet tale of two struggling writers who take on the seemingly impossible task of writing a new musical in just three weeks, enlisting the help of two struggling actresses -- [title of show] has been developed and presented under the aegis of Mr. McCollum and his co producer Laura Camien since 2004 until they entered into a partnership with the Vineyard Theatre for the show's Off-Broadway and subsequent commercial runs.
Producer Kevin McCollum says, "The Vineyard was the perfect place for [title of show] to begin its journey. We had a very successful first run at the Vineyard and now that all of their members have had a chance to see the show, we are excited to be able to welcome a new audience, and see some familiar faces again as well. Returning to the Vineyard will allow us to continue a very successful partnership and begin to build an even larger fan-base for [title of show]."
Now nominated for two Drama League Awards -- including Distinguished Production of a Musical and a nomination for the entire ensemble -- [title of show] has a cast featuring Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, and Heidi Blickenstaff.
Reviews for [title of show] praised its freshness and originality: "Have I got a show for you!" wrote Charles Isherwood in The New York Times, calling [title of show] a "postmodern homage to the grand tradition of backstage musicals like 'Babes in Arms,' 'Kiss Me Kate,' and 'A Chorus Line.'" Chronicling the story of its own creation, [title of show] is a completely original backstage glimpse into just what it takes to get a new musical from conception to opening night. "Don't miss it!" declared Time Out New York of [title of show], which has been called a "backstage crowd-pleaser" by Marilyn Stasio (Variety) and "delicious…a genuine treat" by Michael Sommers (Star-Ledger). Michael Kuchwara of the Associated Press said [title of show] is "Expert, a delightful, cheeky musical comedy with a peppy score and a clever book."
