theAtrainplays Celebrates the Subway Centinal

Benefiting the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre Vol. XV, 6 one act plays: Friday, October 22nd thru Saturday, October 30, 2004 Vol. XVI, 5 one act musicals: Saturday, October 23rd thru Saturday, October 30, 2004

theAtrainplays are a celebration of New York. Eleven creative teams will conceive, write and shape two new live theatrical shows while traveling the entire route of the A train from 207th Street and Broadway to Far Rockaway and back. On Thursday evening, October 21st, six playwrights will meet in Inwood and begin the process of creating six one-act plays. On Friday evening, October 22nd, five librettists will also hop on the A train at 207th Street and start writing the books for five 15-minute musicals, all set on the A train. Before each team begins their journey, the writers pick a number between 3 and 5 to set the number of characters. They then choose that number of headshots through a blind draw to determine who is in each piece. When the librettists and playwrights reach the Far Rockaway stop, they randomly select, through another blind draw, their collaborators who have been awaiting their arrival at a nearby McDonalds! Lyricists, composers directors and choreographers, for the librettists, directors for the playwrights. With the creative teams now fully assembled, they all return to 207th street and then proceed to Columbus Circle where they meet the pre-selected actors, decipher their scribbles, copy the scripts and begin rehearsals. They have until show time THE NEXT DAY to develop these works into an electrifying, unique and entertaining theatrical experience that will be performed for the audience, fully produced and off-book, at the Neighborhood Playhouse.

theAtrainplays, vol. XV, (all plays) will be performed on Friday, October 22nd at 8:00 p.m. and repeated on Saturday, October 23rd at 10:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24th at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26th at 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 29th at 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 30th at 7:00 p.m.

theAtrainplays, vol. XVI, (all musicals) will be performed on Saturday, October 23rd at 8:00 p.m. and repeated on Sunday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27th at 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 30th at 9:00 p.m.
