ZviDance creates a passionate vision of community in the modern age. The company's works draw their energy from the waves of change across civilizations. A collaborative alliance among artists, the company's works celebrate diversity by melding movement genres. Led by Israeli-born Artistic Director Zvi Gotheiner, ZviDance continues its year-long 20th Anniversary celebration with the World Premiere of ZOOM, the company's most ambitious work to date, April 7-10 2010, at Dance Theater Workshop, 219 W. 19th Street, New York, NY 10011. Performances: Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30pm, and Saturday at 2pm. Tickets: $20 ($16 for students, seniors and members), available at www.dtw.org or by phone at (212) 924-0077.
ZOOM integrates dance, cell phones, video projection, a real-time web interface and live music. Conceived by Zvi Gotheiner and his artistic team, ZOOM shatters the wall between audience and performers, creating a new interactive performanceenvironment. During performances of ZOOM, audience members take cell phone photos and text them to the visual designer, who projects them as real-time video collages. Text messages between audience and performers are projected in an exhilarating real-time dialogue. Without the use of words, the audience crosses the proscenium to take close-ups of the performers, finding themselves in a radically different relationship to the creative process. Appropriate for children ages ten and up.

About Zvi Gotheiner, Artistic Director
Born and raised in a kibbutz in northern Israel, Zvi began his artistic career as a gifted violinist with the Young Kibbutzim Orchestra, where he attained the rank of soloist and Concertmaster at age 15. He began dancing at 17, and soon after, formed his first performance group. Zvi arrived in New York in 1978 on a dance scholarship from the
America-Israel Cultural Foundation and dance with the
Joyce Trisler Dance Company, Feld Ballets/NY and toured with Bat-Sheva Dance Company. After directing Tamar Ramle and the Jerusalem Tamar Dance Companies in Israel and the Israeli Chamber Dance Company in New York, he founded ZviDance.
The creation of ZOOM was made possible in part by...
Funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, the William J. and Dorothy K. O'Neill Foundation, the Bossak-Heilbron Charitable Foundation, the Harkness Dance Foundation, the Katherine Dalglish Foundation and the JKW Foundation. ZviDance's creative process benefited greatly from a space grant at Fiorello H.
