According to a report by Variety, Zooey Deschanel is set to star in a pilot by playwright Elizabeth Meriwether entitled 'Chicks'. Deschanel will play the lead character, while Jake Kasdan will direct.
As described by Variety, the show "explores the sexual politics of men and women via a woman who moves in with three boorish men."
Meriwether wrote the plays Heddatron (2006), The Mistakes Madeline Made (2006), and Oliver Parker! (2010). She also wrote the screenplay for the 2011 romantic comedy film No Strings Attached. She has also written for the Adult Swim television series Childrens Hospital, is working with Fox Broadcasting Company on a comedy project, and is developing projects for studios Universal and Paramount.
Descanel is known for appearing in films such as Elf (2003), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) and Failure to Launch (2006). She then began playing lead roles in films, including Yes Man (2008) and (500) Days of Summer (2009).
