John Chatterton, in association with La Muse Venale, has announced that the off-Broadway premiere of Secrets by Gerald Zipper will play its final performance July 30th. Performances continue at The Theatre at St. Luke's (308 West 46th Street).
Ted Mornel directs a cast that includes Mark Hamlet, Darren Lougee, Lissa Moira, Alyce Mayors, Tom Sminkey and Elena Zazanis.
"Hidden relationships threaten friendship and love as this evening of wining and dining degenerates into a session of backbiting, snide comments, and a contest to see who can be the cruelest to their respective spouses. When all is said, the participants wonder whether it's worth staying together anymore -- but then again, can they adjust to a life alone?," state press notes.
Among Gerald Zipper's Off-Broadway works is A Little Madness, produced at Provincetown Playhouse. His other plays are presented regularly at theatres across the country. His poetry appears in over 250 literary, university, and poetry magazines in the US, Canada, and Europe.
Ted Mornel is considered one of the pioneers of the off-off Broadway movement. He has premiered over 200 new plays and has worked at such seminal theaters as Cafe Cino, Theater Crossroads, Bastiano's Workshop, Playbox Studio, White Masque Theater, Thirteenth Street Theater, The New York Theater Ensemble, Nameless Theater, Theater for the New City, Impact Theater and American Theater of Actors. Playwrights he has worked with include Robert Patrick, Lanford Wilson, Michael McGrinder, Michael Mathias, Donald Kvares and John Chatterton. Mornel is listed in Who's Who in American Theater.
Performances of Secrets will be Monday evenings at 8 PM, Wednesday through Friday at 8 PM, Saturdays at 3 PM & 8 PM, and Sundays at 3 PM & 7 PM. Opening Night is set for Sunday June 25th at 7:00 PM.
